The idea was born out of our passions for quality imagery, and a desire to start paying off student loans while still in school. Fast forward to the present, and we have had the opportunity to be a part of almost 100, fantastic weddings!
We have loved the opportunity to celebrate with our friends, make new relationships, and contribute in any way to some great weddings. It has been an incredible ride, and will likely continue for many years to come. In that seemingly short time, Dust Studios has become synonymous with weddings and portraiture.
As we have grown over the past six years both personally and professionally, it became clear that adding more corporate and long-term work relationships in the mix was the perfect next step. To continue with our Dust Studios brand, we decided to launch another, separate project focused on those projects outside of weddings and portraits.
We have a lot of new content coming along, and we hope you check out all that is brewing over at our new website as well!
And to be honest, they never really get old! The raw joy and celebration cannot be shrugged off. It is impossible to spend time with a couple on their wedding day and not get caught up in the excitement and anticipation of a life ahead.
We hadn't met Katie and Brandon before working together for their wedding, but upon our first meeting, we knew they were going to be an awesome couple to work with. I had actually seen Brandon play soccer with our older brother in high school, and still remember some excellent goals he had scored. That was a long time ago, but suffice it to say these two came through thick and thin to be together.
Legend has it, this old, one-room country church was passed down generation-to-generation, and over the years had fallen into disrepair. Then, it finally closed for business as people preferred the larger, more regional churches. However, the property stayed in the family, and was recently renovated back to its proper state, retaining all of the old style and charm.
While the church was certainly a highlight of the day, it could not overshadow the love Katie and Brandon had for each other. They had such a natural poise and joy when together that is rare to see, and certainly a pleasure to be around. Not only was the couple full of joy, but everyone we encountered throughout the day was ready to celebrate with great anticipation.
Congratulations, Katie & Brandon! God bless!

Paige and Nick had been friends of friends for years, with our paths rarely crossing. Nevertheless, we had seen and heard great things about them, notable their passion for Christ, love for each other, and impeccable style. Also, something about the cubs...So for us, this was the perfect opportunity to celebrate at a beautiful wedding with friends old and new!
Paige & Nick went on their first date to a Shakespeare on the Lawn event at Salisbury House & Gardens. It must have gone pretty well. Just a short bit later, we found ourselves celebrating their wedding at the very same place. The couple's penchant for style and design was evident in every single detail (see: flowers by Shelley Sarver Desgins), and the guests were transported upon arrival to a place reminiscent of early-century glam and rife with modern style. Couple that with an illustrious venue, amazing fall weather, incredible people (see: photography by our old pal Logan Clement), and you have the formula for a grand event.
The guests love and care for Nick and Paige is probably best evidenced by the wedding officiant, Rusty who traveled back from the east coast in order to be a part of their day. We couldn't say enough about this wonderful celebration, but we will let the video do the talking from here.
You would be hard-pressed to find a more relaxed and fun-loving couple than Helane and Ryan! We had a really great time hanging out with these two, and though the day was fast-paced and full, there were so many beautifully fun moments that are really evident in what we captured for their video.
When it comes to wedding ceremonies, it gets easy to overcomplicate. But these two had a perfectly simple ceremony to drive home their commitments to each other and to Jesus. It was truly beautiful to behold!
The reception at Farmhouse Gatherings was positively splendid. Every single detail was planned to the tee, and yet you felt like you were just walking into a friend's home for a dinner party. And we can't overlook the inclusion of gourmet doughnuts...that is going to be hard for us to top! A lovely place to celebrate full of light and texture and solid vibes - perfect for this relaxed and fun-loving couple that can't stop smoochin'!
Congratulations, Helane and Ryan!
Stay tuned for the full wedding film coming August 1!
May 30, 2016 marked the wedding day of Amanda and Andrew Rohlf. We loved getting to spend the holiday celebrating alongside such a joyful couple!
I met Andrew back in Salt Company, and then we had a blast as teammates on a summer soccer team last year. And then all came full circle when they asked us to create the film for their wedding! We were pretty jazzed.
As you will very quickly realize, when watching the video, the wedding day was a blast. Every soul in attendance was having a great time, and it all started with these two who radiate joy as their love for each other, and their Savior, overflows constantly. Couple that with an awesome venue, and gorgeous weather, and it makes a pretty killer wedding day.
We look forward to seeing where God leads Amanda and Andrew in the future, and given the vast amount of love and support displayed by family and friends on their wedding day, they have all the right stuff in place to do so!
I met Matt in 2008. I had likely met him in group settings or in passing before, but when I really MET Matt, was at a little men's retreat before our Freshman year at ISU came to an end. Throughout the festivities of the weekend, I found it prudent to get to know Matt after witnessing his (literal) feats of strength. Please ask me about these.
Fast forward a few years, and Matt and I find ourselves nearing the end of our leases and looking for more sensible housing, and - there you have it! We became roommates. While our time as roommates was brief, due to my dating and marrying Martha that next summer, Matt and I became good friends through our time sharing an apartment, and I was blessed to have him as an usher at our wedding.
Even though Emily came to ISU as well, and participated in many of the same activities as Matt, it took both of them moving to Minneapolis to meet and fall in love! And in love they truly are. Matt has garnered quite the reputation for being a dumpster-diver extraordinaire, and he has found his perfect match in Emily to both encourage and curtail that passion when necessary. Truly a God-given chemistry.
The Heimann wedding was just that - a joy-filled event that clearly displayed their love for each other (it was hard to get them to stop kissing for even a moment) as well as their passion for the Lord which has been characteristic of their lives for many years. The decor was beautifully simple and reflected both the couple's quality taste, as well as a fervent DIY/re-purposing ethic. This was most evident in the hand-made coaster favors (re-purposed pallet wood) and the ceremony whereing the couple completed and hand-made, wooden "H" (also using re-purposed wood). While the weather that day was uncharacteristically cool for mid-May, the beauty of the wedding won out, and it was a non-stop celebration!
We were blessed to be a part of the day (notice Martha and her sister playing the stringed instruments as well), and even more blessed to call the Heimanns friends!
The full wedding film will be released on Thursday (6/9/16)!
Back on May 7, we had the pleasure of shooting a splendid country club, big-top tent wedding in Burlington, IA. I had met Ben in passing a few years back, and knew Paulina was a friend of friends, but it was our first official meeting together when we knew this wedding was going to be a blast to shoot! Any time spent around these two will simultaneously be as relaxed and fun a day could get. They radiate joy and love for each other, but never miss an opportunity to chuckle or crack a joke.
Their wedding was at the gorgeous Burlington Golf Club, but took place in a simple and elegant big-top ten near the practice green. The relaxed and fun nature of these two truly came out in the styling, while painting a clear picture of their future full of love and adventure. The ceremony, officiated by David Livingston, was an amazing story of love between God and his people, and of the love between Paulina & Ben. Even with a little heat combined with a little rain drizzle, we had an amazing time, and were very blessed to be a small part of the day.
The full wedding film will be released on Tuesday, May 31st.
Since this one has already made it to two(2!) weddings in her short, 7-week, post-womb life, we are a bit past due in formally introducing her to you all.
If you want to know more about the birth and all that jazz, I will let you ask Martha personally. While all the details are quite unnecessary, some of them are grand and beautiful. We thought we would try to capture those pieces with a short video and some photos.
Thank God for children and good health! We are rich indeed.
We at Dust Studios love BTS videos. That is, Behind-the-Scenes. They are a joy to make, and a laugh to watch. We hope you think so. If you missed the full music video, go to our blog post and check it out!
This one is more of an outtakes video, but still just as worthwhile:
"Gotta get down in the salt..." - Some guy
We love the opportunities provided by this line of work to meet new people and build new friendships. The people part of the job is incredibly rewarding and has led to some fantastic work experiences and genuine relationships. But we also greatly appreciate the opportunity to partner with our (existing) good friends on their projects and collaborate to spur the creative genius onward.
Mississippi Jake has a unique musical talent in tandem with the ability to tell his very own stories in a beautiful way, which culminates into a very enjoyable and authentic listening experience. Jake is one of the most laid-back and genuinely kind people you'll ever meet. I think it might be impossible to truly offend him. But it doesn't take long to see that there is a lot of depth to his character, and a lot of wisdom ground out of the toil of experience. That is certainly evident with this single.
Mississippi Jake - "DFS (Wards of the State)"
Another layer to the fun was getting in the studio (at The Ark) with Jake and getting to observe his work, as well as actually recording with him (Martha). We always love the opportunity to loop in as many people in these things, and it is so rewarding to do it alongside friends and see it all come together!
Being involved in weddings year in and year out means perpetually living in a "small world". It seems as though (nearly) every single wedding we get to be a part of, we see old friends, or meet friends of friends, or someone's parents know our parents, or our high school friends went to college with our recent friends. You name it, the scenario has likely crossed our path!
With Luke and Mia, it was much more direct. Mia was Martha's college roommate for a year whom I (Gabe) became acquainted with by proximity; Martha and I were still dating at the time. Fast-forward a couple of crazy years and I sign up to play soccer with a couple friends and a handful of "randos" (random people - to me at least). Lo and behold, our team captain is none other than Luke Pierson! It wasn't until Mia started coming to the occasional soccer game that I started to put the (obvious) pieces together.
There are pros and cons to having a wedding in any season and any setting. For instance, a winter wedding tends to add some challenges to shooting out of doors. But we got our 3 minutes in, and it was worth it!
As you can see, Mia and Luke toughed it out like champs, and that says more about their character than anything! It was such a blast to shoot with these guys, and get to see just how much fun and excitement they have in their relationship. It is obvious God is taking them places, and it will be a joy to behold!
Prior to the summer's tsunami of grand weddings, we were able to launch this new website and dive deeper into our branding and client relations. Needless to say, we love the opportunity to be creative with every aspect of our business, and yet - there is so much more we can do!
A big part of communication and relationship is transparency. We want to be honest about our lives in hopes that you will do the same. And while we love what we do and the people we get the pleasure of working with, it really is a smaller portion of our time than it may seem. We keep pretty active on our Facebook and Instagram accounts, but still have a desire to share more in-depth about our work and our lives. Hence, the blog!
They have an awesome blog together that you should definitely check that out to hear about their goings-on and see some killer photos (frequently featuring their new puppy!).
Some teasers to pique your interest:
We will be updating the blog with our recent work and general good times. But for all things Dust prior to 2016, check out our videos page! We shot a lot of super-fun and exciting weddings over the course of 2015, and don't want you to miss those.
The most recent update( addition) would be that of our newest family member, Felicity Joy! She was born back on March 25th and we could not be more thankful!
We will discuss that adventure soon, but for now, here is a teaser:
